Posted this over on VI-C, but thought I'd throw it over here, too.

This is such a classic hip-hop thing that's been around forever, I feel like an idiot for not knowing how to do this.

It's the first 4 beats in this clip that go: kick-suck kick-suck kick-suck kick-suck...

I'm guessing this was originally done by DJs repeatedly pushing/pulling a record on a turntable. But how to create it in a DAW?

You basically give the answer here. Reverse the kick sample, add EQ to taste, and trigger that after the actual kick....

... or just sample what you have here and be done with it
