What's new

Hope everyone's busy writing songs!

My muse is demanding better working hours
There was a healthy surge of activity around here during the last quarter of 2025. But once the end-of-year holidays hit, folks pretty much disappeared, including myself. Hopefully, there are good reasons for everyone's absences... the best reason of all being you're all consumed with frenzied songwriting activity!

So who's been working on songs and music during the past month or so? Tell us about it... 😃📣

I'm busy writing songs right now - that's actually what I'm doing at the moment.

My goal for 2025 was to improve my songwriting (writing lyrics in a foreign language is a stupid idea),
so I wrote a ton of lyrics that are now looking for a suitable song.
I'm also reworking my first song lyrics (I started writing end of 2022,
so I'm still pretty new to this) because they were a bit clumsy, to say the least.

TLDR: I have a lot of unused lyrics and am currently writing songs to go with them.

Some are already finished, so if you want to listen to something:

I'm writing every day.

I was working a little too frantically last year trying to complete my first album of all new songs. I was writing many songs at the same time, as well as hiring singers, doing arrangements, working with a mixer, etc. Chaos.

My plan was to revive my old YouTube Channel by making videos telling the story of writing each one. Each one has a beginning, middle, and end: why I wanted to write it, the dreams I had when I started, the mistakes, the dead ends, all the long sections I spent weeks writing and producing and then cut, and so on.

For a lot of reasons (including making the YouTube project more manageable), I scrapped most of those songs, even though I'd spent $$$, stress, and time on them. I decided to focus on a five-song EP on a theme. No rushing, no compromises. Two of those songs are fully produced, and the third is 95% written. I am proud of these three songs, but I want the next two to be better. I've learned things writing each one.

Lately I've wasted time posting on several forums about AI. A friend helped me understand that it just doesn't matter. Let people do what they want to do if it makes them happy. I'm trying to focus on the joy I get from songwriting, playing, producing, and pushing myself to my limit.

I am working on several songs right now.

„Warrior of the Sun“ is a metal song inspired by the computer game Dark Souls. Recording is almost finished so I can start mixing soon.

Besides that I am working on another metal song about the One Ring of LOTR. This song features lots of orchestral instruments so songwriting and arrangement take a little bit more time.

I will also re-record all four songs from my first EP in English language (language on the EP is German) and adjust the songwriting here and there.

Thats what I am doing right now. There are more songs planned but one thing after another. :-)

I still have a '90s ballads project in the works, but music production (all recreation actually) is mostly on hiatus through the early part of winter while I am busy dealing with various priorities. I'm estimating an April or May release.

As a hobbyist, it can be easy to get distracted by Real Life and not do any writing for a couple months.

In truth, the holidays were spent checking out all the sales, trying to convince myself that I didn't really need to buy yet another library because I wasn't likely to ever use them, no matter how lovely they sounded. I mean, I'm not likely to ever need Fracture Sounds "Brass Band Soloists", but still...

What, they're still on sale? 🤔

So Monday forced myself to sit down and work on a song. I imagined I'd told my (non-existent) record company that I had a song ready, and I'd be ready to show it off tomorrow. Of course, I had nothing of the sort - not even an idea for a song.

But that frame of mind - that I needed to write something, just as long as it got finished, kept me slogging away until I finished it yesterday. And a finished song is better than no song!

So now it's time to start working on another song. 🤪

Most of my musical activities got derailed during the holidays by the three F's: Family, Festivities, and Flu. So I only recently got back into the groove, so to speak.

My main project right now is a collection of pop songs for a production library I write for. Actually, I don't know if the library will accept them, since I'm kind of straying off the reservation and trying something different, which doesn't always fly in the sync world. But I figure, after producing 10 albums of licensable material for "them", I wanted to try something for "me". For the past 4-5 years, I've been composing nothing but instrumental music, so I wanted to get back to writing songs.

These songs are targeted at a very specific, but universal, subject and use case that I became aware of while watching a Netflix series a few months ago. So far, I've written 7 songs, and am currently producing 3 of them to completion, to be submitted to the library for review in the hopes of getting the green light to complete a full 10-song album.

Right now, I'm spending most of my time recording vocals, by my wife and another singer.
